A few weeks ago, the Sustainability Innovation Lab attended the Scalable Cities ECHO Conference in Lyon, where representatives from European projects on Positive Energy Districts and Smart Cities gathered. As the final conference of the Scalable Cities initiative, the event provided an opportunity to reflect on the community’s achievements over the past decade and to explore its future beyond the program’s official conclusion.

Together with partners from the ASCEND project, our Lab joined discussions on how to carry the community forward and continue building momentum for sustainable urban innovation.

Our colleague Selina Lorenz represented the Lab in a panel on business models for Positive Energy Districts and Smart Cities. The discussion highlighted that strong, well-designed business models are essential for turning innovative concepts into viable solutions and that establishing clear ownership from the outset is key to their success.

We look forward to contributing to the next chapter of the Scalable Cities community and to continuing our collaboration on sustainable, future-ready urban solutions.
